ARRIVING BY CAR OR BUS?
Should you be coming to Istria by car from the north-western direction, from Slovenia, you will have to cross at one of the three border crossings; Plovanija, Kaštel-Dragonja or Požane-Sočerga. For further travel through Istria a semi-motorway called ‘Ipsilon’ is at your disposal and which leads through central Istria to the southern parts of the peninsula which lies at a distance of about a hundred kilometers from the northern border. When approaching Istria from the eastern side, motorways from Zagreb and Split lead toward Rijeka and, by subsequently passing through the Učka tunnel, you will join ‘Ipsilon’ and quickly reach your destination. Croatian ‘Ipsilon’ main characteristics
The Croatian ‘Ipsilon’ consists of two sections which comprise of semi-motorway B8 from the junction Kanfanar to junction Matulji as well as the semi-motorway B9 from junction Umag to junction Pula. The main technical characteristics of the road are as follows: width of the road surface: from 2 x 3.20 m to 2 x 3.75 m

The section B9 runs in a north-south direction from junction Umag to junction Pula with a total length of 76.790 meters. This road section starts from the north-west part of Istria and passes along the western coastline to junction Kanfanar, where it links with the semi-motorway B8 in the direction of Rijeka, and from this junction Kanfanar continues through the center of Istria ending with an eastern approach to the city of Pula.
